September is over and we are into October
So we have gotten through our first month of training, and it looks like it is going to be an exciting season of Judo at the Vernon Judo Club. Our juniors are progressing nicely, and some are showing promise as future great competitors. Our senior class has grown this year, with an increase in our female Judoka. Many of our females are promoties from our Junior class, with more focus on competition this year. Some of our old Judoka have returned to the Tatami's too, and they are such a great addition with their experience and abilities. Not to be left out, are our new senior judoka's, some with natural abilities, others with great passion to learn everything they can, but all of them are great additions to the club.
If you are a former judoka from any club and are curious about getting back into it again, please feel free to contact any of the instructors on the contact list below for more information.
About the Vernon Judo Club
The club was formed in 1944 by Mr.Y. Mori, in a time when martial arts were banned in many places and Japanese Canadians even required a special police permit to meet in groups. We’ve been practicing ever since, making the VJC the longest continuously running club in Canada.
The club is run entirely by volunteers. Our parent group is a non-profit society dedidicated to support our judoka.
We practice Monday and Thursday nights at the Vernon Japanese Cultural Centre, 4895 Bella Vista Road.
6:30-7:45 PM Junior/intermediate
7:45-9:15 PM Senior
Our season runs from early September to late April. Early season class times are adjusted for a beginners’ class.
Spectators are welcome at any time.
